Tasha Thompson has been running since 1999. She loved taking part in races but noticed a pattern. Elite Black female athletes were well represented, yet regular Black women runners were almost invisible at UK events.
In March 2019, Tasha and her running buddy Linda asked a race marshal a question about the route. The marshal replied, “Are you running the race?” even though they were wearing running gear and race numbers.
That moment sparked a conversation about why so few Black women were running in the UK. Inspired by the success of Black Girls Run in the USA, Tasha decided to act. Black Girls Do Run UK was born to increase visibility, build community, and empower Black women to run.
